T-Mining & GUUD successfully piloted the Secure Document Workflow (SDW) network, transferring Certificates of Origin between Belgium and Singapore
OCTOBER 29, 2021 - ANTWERP - SINGAPORE - The Belgian maritime blockchain startup T-Mining, and Singapore based IT company GUUD announced today the successful completion of the Secure Document Workflow (SDW) network, interconnecting both the Belgian CoO issuing platform Digichambers 2.0 and the Singaporean trade facilitation platform by GUUD, CamelONE. During an initial pilot phase, Certificates of Origin were transferred successfully via the network. This initiative is the result of a joint R&D project between both companies, which started in January 2020.
International trade is marked by various documents, like the Certificate of Origin (CoO) issued by a local Chambers of Commerce. Despite the fact that many of these Chambers offer a local platform to request and generate a digital CoO, an authentic and paper-based version is still required for the import declaration in the country of destination. This often leads to administrative overhead, additional costs, and the potential risk of delays.
Early 2020, T-Mining and GUUD started developing the network infrastructure and a distributed application that together forms the Secure Document Workflow network. This network then interconnects different trade platforms. Digichambers 2.0, the CoO issuing portal of the Belgian Chambers of Commerce is now integrated and connected to SDW. Similar to CamelONE, the Singaporean Trade platform, owned by GUUD.
With this solution, T-Mining and GUUD created the foundation to make the entire journey of the CoO digital, while the underlying blockchain technology guarantees the authenticity as required by local customs authorities. Chambers of Commerce, importers, exporters, trade platforms, and authorities can now securely exchange digital CoO’s. Unique to this solution is the use of decentralized technologies like blockchain to ensure the authenticity of the documents and the absence of a centralized database to guarantee superior commercial privacy.
As a second phase of the project, new importers, exporters, trade platforms, and authorities are currently connecting to SDW, trialing the solution to gain experience and value the benefits. Soon, other trade documents will be supported. SDW is a multi-document solution by design, offering a digital “document pouch” to share a set of documents between multiple supply chain partners, while still ensuring full privacy regarding commercially sensitive information.
This Eureka Globalstars R&D project, called InterTradeChain, was supported by the Flemish Government (VLAIO) and Enterprise Singapore. Both the Belgian Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Deloitte partnered into the project.
